WISER

West of Ireland Sex Education Resource

The aim of the WISER website is to give young people who attend WISER Programmes more resources and information to reinforce and support their continued learning.
The WISER website also gives people who have not yet done the programme an opportunity to see what WISER workshops are all about.
There is background information on the sexual health education staff at AIDS West who deliver the WISER programme.
WISER also sign-posts other youth-related services in the West of Ireland

Be Smarter, Be Wiser

The WISER website aims to enable young people to make healthy, happy, and informed decisions about their involvement or non-involvement in sexual activity.

We hope that this website will help young people to comfortably explore issues related to their sexual health in a safe and age appropriate online space. This site gives up to date information on current trends and issues affecting young people and their sexual health.

We want to promote and support positive sexual health awareness and development without prejudice or discrimination.

Our Objectives

The website is a digital version of the “WISER” workshops, for different age groups and learning needs.

Within each age category (which is accessed by a password provided in the workshop) students can access interactive games to reinforce what they have already learned. There are also fantastic FAQs and answers which have been gathered from the anonymous questions we get asked in schools.

Services

Schools

Our trained facilitators deliver a comprehensive sexual health education programme to schools. The aim of the programme is to support the Social, Personal and Health Education Curriculum (SPHE). The programme consists of 3 sessions of approximately 1.5 hours each

For Parents

Parents are the main educators of their children, sharing their values and attitudes with each new generation. We all want young people to be able to make positive, responsible choices about themselves and the way they live their lives. This site gives you information to help you communicate with your child/children about sex and relationships.

Workshops

WISER workshops look at sexual identity, sexual health (contraception and STIs), consent  in relationships, and the influence of the media on our attitudes and behaviours.

The workshops are fun, highly engaging and relevant to young people.
